Boys Track and Field: Season at a Glance

03/21/2003

If any team has inspiration, it's Dover following its disappointing loss at the state indoor meet. The Senators had to forfeit victory in the last race for a dress code violation, costing them the state title. A lack of depth might cost Dover some wins in its Henlopen Conference dual meets, but its diversity will make the Senators a top contender at invitationals.

Sussex Tech is another Henlopen team that will count on its sprinters. Polytech's field competitors make it a contender. Milford is balanced and will develop into a top Henlopen South team.

Newark has a strong senior class to defend its Blue Hen Conference title. The Yellowjackets are evenly stacked with sprinters and distance runners. Christiana comes in off a strong indoor season and has enough talent spread around to go far. Among Blue Hen Flight B teams, Howard has top-level sprint relay squads and Concord has a few sprinters to carry its team.

Salesianum shoots for the three-season sweep, having already won state titles in cross country and indoor track this school year. The Sals have some of the state's top distance runners, plus some skilled field performers. St. Mark's also has one of the state's better groups of distance runners.
