Perfect Conditions Yield Fine Performances at Meet of Champs!
Girls' Highlights:
Caesar Rodney senior, Destiny Bailey-Perkins was a triple winner in individual events spanning the track and the field. Bailey-Perkins was the 100m champ (12.46), and the winner of both horizontal jumps - Long Jump/18-5.75 and Triple Jump/37-8.00.
Elizabeth Bader, after anchoring Padua's winning 4 x 800m/9:22.56 (Elena Bochetti, Katherine Hally, Judith McLaughlin), returned to take the 1600m/5:02.21 by a large margin.
Delcastle senior, Jalissa Emmens, ran away with the 800m in 2:11.56, #3 All Time!
Smryna reigned supreme in the sprint relays, Saani Edwards, Shaneese LaMons, Aniyah Black, and Sierra Romaine won the 4 x 100m with a MOC meet record time of 47.99, #3 All Time! Lauren Summers replaced Romaine in the Eagles winning 4 x 200m/1:41.38, #6 All Time! They were also runner-ups in both the 4 x 400, second to Tatnall, and the 4 x 800m.

Freshman sensation Anaeja Ferrell, of St. Georges, claimed the 200m/24.87, after a false start prevented her from challenging Bailey-Perkins in the 100m.
Kayla Moody of Middletown, was the winner of the 400m/56.81.
Ursuline freshman Anna Pryor, won the long distance event - 3200m/11:10.38.
In the hurdle events, Padua's Jia Anderson took the 100m/14.55, after a stumble out of the blocks and Charter's Sophia Gulotti was the long hurdle champ in 45.29.
Abigail Kates/Archmere won the High Jump in 5' 5".
For the throwing events, Chioma Njoku, of Padua was the winner of the shot put - 41-1 and the discus was won by Ayanna Obey of Mount Pleasant, 118-1.
State record holder, Erin Kelleher/Padua, was the winner in the Pole Vault with 11-9.
Boys' Highlights:
Brahmir Vick, a junior from Middletown, broke a 34 year state record in the 110m Hurdles - 14.00! Leon Jett of Caesar Rodney was the runner-up in 14.20/#9 All Time and doubled back to win the 300m Hurdles in 38.79.
William Penn's KeShawn Dennis edged his teammate and D1 Champion Matthew Hibbert by just 1/1000th of a second in the 100m/10.887.

Middletown's Bryce Pepukayi took the 200m in 21.84.
Shane Massey, of Lake Forest, won the 400m in 49.14.
Arguably the best event on the track was the 800m. Chris Brown, a senior from Charter, pressed the entire time to hold off defending champion Napoleon Hernandez of Tatnall, and a late charge by Dover's Nathanial Guy to set a Meet of Champs record running 1:51.91 - #2 All Time! Hernandez/1:52.04 and Guy/1:53.05 ran #5 & # 8 All Time perfomances!

Austyn Hamilton, of Caravel was the champ in the 1600m/4:22.13. (Worth noting are the times of two freshmen in the event - Jack Welch of Concord ran 4:28.79 while Ethan Edery of Cape Henlopen ran 4:31.53 to place 3rd and 4th.) The 3200m champ was Andrew Avila/9:17.34, shaking off Friends' senior, Connor Nisbet, after trading leads the first several laps.
Salesianum (Michael Keehan, Sean Banko, Conor Ryan, & Matthew Filliben), set a Meet of Champs record to win the 4 x 800m.

Middletown took the 4 x 100m in 42.47, after a fall at the second exchange prevented the 4 x 200m champs of Sussex Central from finishing.
Dover was the champion in the 4 x 400m, the final event on the track.
Gordon Smith/Delcastle was the Long Jump champion - 22-2.25.
In the Triple Jump, DeShaun Dawkins of Hodgson was the winner in 45-8.25.
The High Jump champ was Elijah Wilson, of Middletown - 6' 8".
Leroy Lynch of AI duPont, won the Pole Vault in 13-6.
In the throwing events, the Discus was decided by just an inch. Braden Young, of Smyrna, edged Jordan Cheaton, of St. Georges - 150' 01"/150' 00".
Seniors gather on the infield at Caravel to celebrate their last high school meet.
