May 25 Rod Lambert Meet of Champions, Caravel High School May 21 - 22 DIAA State Championship Meet, Dover High School May 11 - 12 New Castle County Championships, Charter Tatnall Senior, Kayla Woods, Sets State Mark in the Long Jump! AI Boys/Padua Girls Take Team Titles! Girls' Highlights: Woods, after eyeing up the record all season, launched a 19' 8.75" to best the previous record of 19' 5.5" set by her coach, Lynn Harris Hernandez, back in 1999! Kayla Woods was also the county champ in the 100m, winning that event in 12.32, was 3rd in the 400m, and anchored Tatnall's winning 4 x 400m relay team. Padua's Lydia Olivere earned four county titles, winning the 3200m/10:51.68, the 1600m/4:49.47, moving up to #3 All Time, the 800m/2:14.27, and anchoring the winning 4 X 800m relay! St. Georges' freshman, Charlee Crawford won the 400m in 55.65, earning #9 All Time! She also anchored the winning 4 X 200m relay. Hodgson Vo. Tech senior, Traunasha Burson, won both throwing events - Shot Put/39' 9.75" and Discus/106' 0"! Boys' Highlights: Connor Nisbet, the junior from Wilmington Friends, wound up with his second county title in as many days, by winning the 1600m in 4:12.21. Once again Salesianum junior, Michael Keehan, ran on his shoulder throughout the race placing second in 4:13.78, #6 All Time! Sean Banko, also a junior from Salesianum, was third in 4:16.83. Lewis Kungu, the senior from AI duPont, was a double winner in the sprint events! He started the day winning the 100m in 11.08 and followed up with a win from the first section of the 400m/49.84, due to a nagging injury that prevented him from posting a qualifying mark. His team was able to come up with enough points to win the meet, in spite of not finishing the 4 X 100m relay, an event they were favored to win! Napoleon Hernandez, a sophomore from Tatnall came up with 2 wins. Friday evening, he anchored the winning 4 x 800m relay. He came back the next day to out last Charter's Chris Brown/1:55.37, winning the 800m in 1:55.29! Day 1 Highlights: Boys' 3200m Proved Worth the Wait! Fastest 3200m Race in Delaware History! In the last race of the evening, Wilmington Friends' junior, Connor Nisbet, prevailed as the winner of the 3200m, fighting off both Michael Keehan (Salesianum), and Andrew Avila (Charter), to narrowly miss the state mark set by Tatnall's Sam Parsons back in 2012! Nisbet led from start to finish, often with Keehan on his shoulder and Avila on his heel. His time of 9:00.75 is #2 All Time, behind Parson's 9:00.61, set in California's Arcadia Meet in April of 2012. Keehan held on until the final straightaway, placing 2nd with a time of 9:05.06 - #4 All Time! Charter sophomore, Avila, ran third running 9:06.67 - #6 All Time and a Sophomore Class Record!
