First off, this site is wonderful. What a nice thing to do! I am impressed
that I can go back and see the times my son has run and check how much he has
improved in the 3 years he has run in Cross Country. I was as much impressed
that old classmates of mine still hold records and are on this site, as well
as one of our Coaches making the site too. It would be great to even see team
pictures of each school complete with team names. And made easy to see and
pick out by names. Something to put faces with names when checking the run
times of each runner from each school.
The more I read, the more I wanted to read. Then as I was running out of
things to read, I saw your State Meet History. This is so great!
I am in possession of 2 full scrapbooks given to me by Karl Kaminski, 1967
Coach of the Year, Coach of DeLaWarr High School.
He gave them to me about 10 years ago. We display them every class reunion. We
just had our 35th and made it an all class reunion. Karl is still going strong
and is the life of any party.
These 2 scrapbooks contain 58 pages of Photos, News articles, scoreboards,
results between meets, for track and field. I have them scanned and place on
my computer. I also have them on a disc. Without reading every article which I
have not had time to do yet, The appear to be between 1966 and 1968 but could
include 1965 and maybe even 1969.
If you would like this information for this site, Im sure Karl would not mind.
I can call him or email him if I need to. He kept this scrapbook while he
coached. I would just like any credit for the collection to be Karl
Kaminski's. I am just the Archivist/Historian as such for many of our
treasures we have located on DeLaWarr. Karl felt we would like to have it for
our class. Since DeLaWarr is NO MORE as a school, it has been hard locating
memoribilia.
I was so excited to see Arnold Tucker still holding records for 1967 afrom
DeLaWarr. We dont know where Arnold is right now but if we ever locate him, I
know he will be happy to see this. I did give Karl a copy of his books on a
disc for him to remember his times and pass on to his family. There are
probably a few articles that are off the edge. Karl put many articles on each
page. I can always rescan any articles that are not complete. Most of the
articels also have the date cut off the top of the newspaper to show when they
appeared in the News Journal or possibly Journal Every Evening at that time.
When I first saw Karl's books, I was so pleased, my ex husband ran Track and I
was so happy that our youngest son, a Cross Country Runner, could see his
Dad's name in print. Just something we no one in the family thought to save.
Now he can see where he gets the urge to be a Runner. There might be other
children who have parents in these articles too.
Understand, much is of DeLaWarr but there are other articles, as well as many
stats and many articles including both DeLaWarr and the opposing team. We feel
this information is priceless, a real treasure. We are so thankful that Karl
gave it to our class to be shared. There is so little for us to go back and
read over other than year books.Your site might be the place for all of this,
pictures included. Where else can people go back and see the athletes of our
past?
Let me know if you are interested and I will check with Karl to make sure
there is no problem.
Take care.
